.: Bush Stone Curlews

Bush Stone Curlew (Burthinus grallarius). The wailing call is one of the most characteristic sounds of the bush at night. By day the secretive, camouflaged birds, though large are hard to see, they freeze flat on the ground or skulk away if in danger. They live in open woodlands, lightly timbered country, mallee and mulga,\ and anywhere with ground cover of small sparse shrubs, grass or littler of twigs.
