There is nothing more rewarding than releasing a bird that has been in care. Some birds can be in care from 2 days through to over a year depending on the injury sustained and their treatment plan.

Two Pelicans Released
"Kalla" a female pelican that was suffering from botulism and in care for 8 weeks was released at Bells Creek today, she flew off beautifully.
"Bruce" a male pelican that was in care for 5 weeks due to hook and line entanglement was released today at Maroochydore. He was a bit reluctant to leave his transportable cage but once he felt the sand underneath his feet and the smell of the salt air he took off.
Red Tailed Tropic Bird
"Pearl" was released today on the tip of Bribie Island. She bathed in the sea and then took off northwards, then changed directions and headed south. It was such an exhilarating experience to see her fly off as she was very weak when she came into care.
Cormorants x 3
"David" a great cormorant that was in care for 5 weeks with feather damage was released at Bulcock Beach Caloundra today, he did not hesitate flying off.
"Byerby" a Great Black Cormorant was in care for 8 weeks due to malnutrition and weakness was finally released today, he had a flap in the water before taking off.
"Flake" a great cormorant hit by a car at Currimundi and in care for 7 weeks was released today at Bulcock Beach. He took off beautifully heading north.
Pied Cormorant Released
"Enrique" a pied cormorant that had internal tackle and escaped surgery as he regurged the hook whilst in care was released today at Bells Creek Caloundra. He bathed in the water for some time before flying towards Bribie Island.
Wood Ducks x 22
22 wood ducks that were orphaned and rescued from Bribie Island, Buderim and Deception Bay were released at Bob Irwin's Wildlife sanctuary. Bo and Judy welcomed the new comers and they all headed for his huge dam.
Purple Swamp Hen
"Ali" a weak purple swamp hen found at Aspley an in care for 8 days was released today at a local wetlands in Beerwah today. She adapted to her new surroundings well foraging for food.
Shearwater
A shearwater rescued from North Lakes suffering from weakness and in care two weeks was released at Shelley Beach today. He drifted in the water for a while and then flew off.
