Whistling Duckling
A four day old whistling duck "Ellen" was rescued in Mooloolah. Ellen is now in our intensive care unit and on a heat source and feeding well on chicken starter.
Female Pelican
A Buddina resident reported a pelican with a suspected broken leg. Upon arrival she was entangled in fishing line. The line was that tightly wrapped around her leg that she required surgery as you could see the bone and tendon in her leg. "Leah" has been admitted to our intensive care unit and is on a course of antibiotics and pain relief. She is scheduled for a vet check 15/1/11.
Royal Spoonbill
A royal spoonbill was reported with blood on its wings at Beerwah Library. "Saffron" was treated by the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital and admitted to our intensive care unit. She is on pain relief and antibiotics and is responding to treatment.
White Faced Heron
A white faced heron was found wet and in poor condition at Buderim. "Lauren" is extremely weak and underweight. She has been admitted to our intensive care unit and is being force fed she has gained 15g.
Pacific Black Ducklings
9 pacific black ducklings were surrendered by a member of public from Kallangur. They had been in care 7 weeks. 3 were euthanised due to leg deformities and the other 6 are showing signs of early stages of leg deformities. The deformities are due to a poor diet. The outcome for the surviving 6 ducks are being monitored by the vet of Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital. They have been admitted to our intensive care unit and placed on supplements to try and reverse the deformities.
Little Shearwater
Little Missy a little shearwater was found at Pelican Waters, she was very weak and could not hold her head up. She was assessed by the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, her bloods came back severely abnormal and she needed to be euthanised.
Adult Whistling Duck
Whistler was found in a suburban yard laying on his side. Whistler is showing signs of neurological problems. He has been put on pain relief and admitted to our intensive care unit where he is showing a slight improvement.
A Big Day For Rescues
Three birds were rescued today. A Black Swan from Cashmere that is suffering from a condition called Botulism and is on a IV drip in intensive care.
A Great Cormorant from Shelley Beach was found in poor condition and very weak he was given a course of antibiotics and died overnight.
A juvenile White Faced Heron was rescued from Golden Beach, "Travis" was cold, wet and exhausted his blood tests showed an infection he is now in our intensive care unit on a course of antibiotics and pain relief.
Tawny Frog Mouth
An adult tawny frog mouth was found at Caboolture with a fractured wing. Quarry was taken to the Australia Zoo Wildlife hospital for assessment. Unfortunately his wing could not be operated on so he was euthanised.
